Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct is used as a guideline for managing behaviour in various online groups.

Do’s

My Values document details what I’m about.  I’m about being kind and gracious.  I’m about not tolerating abuse or permitting destructive antisocial behaviour by us or our family and friends.  I’m about “doing unto others as you’d have them do unto you”.

Don’ts

Violence

I don’t tolerate violence.  Violence is defined by the World Health Organization as “the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation”.

If you are violent towards your partner, whether they or you are male or female, a parent, a child or any other individual in the community you will be confronted and offered an opportunity to address your violence.  This includes the unnecessary violence towards animals.  If you do not agree to address your problem and fail to immediately cease this behaviour you will be expelled from membership of this community.

On very rare occasions violence may be regrettably necessary for the purpose of defence whether for yourself or the defence of a third party as is allowed within Australian law.  However, violent defence should not be used as a reason to excuse unnecessary violence.

Stealing

Is defined as taking anything that is not yours exclusively for your own personal and/or unlawful gain. The non-return after the accidental receipt of something that was not meant for you.  If you are caught doing this you will be asked to apologise to who you stole it from and return it.  If you don’t immediately do this it will be referred to the authorities.

After making amends you will need to address the underlying cause – whether that is obtaining cash for a drug or gambling habit, a moral deficiency or a mental health problem.  Regardless of the underlying cause if you are a member we expect you to address this to retain membership of this community.

If you do not take action to immediately cease this behaviour, you will be expelled from membership with our community.

Lying

Everyone lies every single day.  Most lies are harmless and inconsequential which we call “white lies”.  However, if you purposefully deceive members of the community to cause harm to another member or benefit yourself it is not okay and won’t be tolerated.

If you omit the full truth to avoid being accountable for something you did wrong, that is not acceptable.  If you say something that’s untrue, or you say something in a way to deliberately mislead someone for the purpose of hurting another individual or benefitting yourself it is unacceptable.

This is a difficult one to address and it really depends on the particular circumstances however lying in the ways we’ve described hurts relationships and the community.  If you have been found doing this and do not agree to address your problem and immediately commit to discontinue this behaviour your will be expelled from membership of this community.

Adultery/Infidelity/Cheating

Is defined as deceitfully cheating on your partner.  No other single selfish act is more destructive to relationships, families and communities.  This is not acceptable as a member of this community or any other healthy community.

If you have been found doing this and do not agree to address your problem and immediately commit to discontinue this behaviour, you will be expelled from membership of this community.

Other Don’t’s

We will not tolerate stalking, bullying, discrimination, nor abuse based on religion, race, disability or sexual orientation against any community member.

We will not tolerate community members who knowingly support, ignore, collude with, or ‘turn a blind eye’ to any other community member who commits any of the ‘don’t’ behaviours listed.

Extortion, threats, conspiracy, coercion, and manipulation are destructive for communities and are not suited for building a fruitful organisation. As such, they won’t be tolerated.

If you are found in breach of the code and would like to dispute our decision regarding your expulsion or request to address your problem you can.  A mediated dispute resolution process can be provided at your expense.

Invictus by William Ernest Henley

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.
